Does an auger filler need a checkweigher?
An auger filler does not always need a checkweigher, but checkweighing should be considered when the finished pack must be accepted by weight, when product density changes, or when the buyer needs production evidence beyond the auger setting.
A compact bench or semi-automatic process may use separate bench weighing. An automatic line may justify an inline checkweigher and reject station so every pack is checked without stopping production.
Can checkweighing fix inaccurate powder filling?
Checkweighing can identify inaccurate powder filling, but it cannot by itself fix the cause. The cause may be product bulk density, hopper fill level, bridging, aeration, screw size, filling speed, pack presentation or settling after filling.
The useful approach is to use checkweighing evidence to tune the powder feed, screw tooling and operating settings, then prove the agreed result under normal production conditions.
Where should rejected powder packs go?
Rejected powder packs should move to a controlled location where the operator can identify, quarantine and rework or dispose of them under the site's quality procedure. The reject method must suit the pack format and line speed.
Rigid jars, flexible pouches and bags may need different reject handling. The design should avoid damaging good packs or allowing rejected packs to rejoin the accepted stream.
What information is needed to specify checkweighing?
To specify checkweighing after auger filling, provide the pack format, empty-pack tare variation, target fill range, closure timing, target output, reject method, required evidence and whether the check is manual, automatic or part of a feedback loop.
Send pack samples where possible. The weighing point should be planned with the filler, conveyor, closing method and inspection route rather than treated as a separate accessory.
